Test Footage

This test footage is to practise using the 'old film affect' on PhotoShop they had loads of different aspects of this including: flick, hair, and tilt which were all affects I wanted in my music video. Some parts of the music video will have more of one thing i.e.) tilt then in other scenes to make it look more realistic.

Storyboard

Final Storyboard

This storyboard shows a more descriptive view on my music video, I knew what technique to use for the video but the editing will be the most sufficient in the music video. The storyboard shows different styles of the 'old film affect' for example (hair, flick, tilt) in which scene as well as different camera angles. What I have leaned through my research is that different genres of music have a different look or image so for this particular genre I have the camera to show of the band with their instruments in a more old fashioned look. The video itself has the 'old film affect' this ideas came to me as I thought it will link with the title of 'home' to relate with 'old home film', I believe it has a different look to most music videos of this genre but still keeping to the techniques as well, for example it is not in front of an audience but still shows the band playing and singing. The song is very slow tempo and the emotion is very low and I believe this look and technique of the video really suits the song as old films are very emotional, sometimes old films are quick and often jilt, so it suits the guitar as the guitar is fairly quick tempo.

Animatic Storyboard
It was very difficult to explain my video and filming techniques through drawing (bad drawing) but I did attempted to explain what my music video will contain.this is a very basic idea of my thoughts on my music video, I know that I wanted to have a technique to be constantly used thoughout the video, with my research I have noticed the affect that the 'Black Stone Cherry' video used thoughout their music video was a steady cam and I thought of having an older look of that affect.

The Gig

Photos taken

These photos that I have taken show research of my chosen artist to see the bands personality as it needs to reflect in both the digipak and the video, and also to see what they are like in this kind of environment, these images shows the band preforming at their gig at the Kings pub, these pictures show different shots at different angles eg) at a low angle, and I differed the lighting at times using the flash. This was a challenge as people were in the way at times but I still managed to gain some good pictures that I will add to my digipak and its booklet. The images taken give me an idea of what my music video will look like as I want the background to be based on a stage or look like a stage eg) the studio. The only negative point I have to say about the pictures and why I am thinking twice for the location of the video is the big flat screen TV in the background as it will be a drawback for my 'old film affect' on my video.

A PowerPoint's about Youth

Looking at all these different types of genre of music I have chosen one to look into with more detail, one that I will focus on doing for my final video. These PowerPoint's shows a small change in rock music including the fashion and the general attitude, however the music itself never really changes from its origin, from Rock N Roll to heavy metal to indie music. The genre I will be focusing on is 'hard rock', the PowerPoint's which are presented show early research into my chosen band beginning with looking into the genre as the genre will affect the sound, fashion and attitude.

My Favorite Video's Research

Looking at different videos is an important introduction before I begin creating a music video I have done some research as this can give me ideas for any work for A2 from previous work from famous videos. Every video is different due to the genre of the music and the artist themselves. Each of these videos I have personally chosen from my favorite music videos each of these videos show difference with the same genre of music. With each video I have done a brief description of why I like it and reasons why I think it's a good video.

Metallica With One

The introduction to this video is different to the other videos as it has two narrative points and more then two videos it begin with the old man talking to a boy about democracy before the music even begins, when it does begin it's only a shot of the band before the scene with the bomb digetic sound as well as the song itself with this the extra video reflects the song completely. The lighting reflects the story as the video is very dark the only light is a slight light across the band which make the band seen out casted.

The basic Mice-en-scene include the instruments, the clothing as casual everyday wear. The location is a fairly empty garage or somewhere similar filled with some metal bars and dirtied windows which bare very little light

The editing clips of the extended video as well as the band playing, using close ups on the band playing their instruments as well as long shots of them playing as well, the (high up shot) on the drum kit which I really liked. The way each video is a fading affect from one clip to the next and even including one member of the band faded but pulled across the extra video.

Evanescence With 'My Immortal'

I chose this video because it is beautifully made because not only does it fit in with the song itself but I personally love this video because of the negative or black and white affect really suits the song, with the sadness and the depressing feeling comes across with the song and also the video.

The colour of her white dress stands out of all the other white colour's which is important as the lead singer is the important person in the song and video. The softness of the filming works really well for example with the water being touched works really well as it foreshadows the milliscent and gentle nature of the song. Even though the video is in black and white the lighting is vacant as it is very bright, being a very modern video and done in a old fashioned form is shown as brightness and the crispness is shown.

The editing is very slow but using close ups and (gradually close ups) shows a more venerable state for each member of the band another shot which shows venerability is an (up shot) where the camera is above the act which is on top of a car, and a (look around shot) which is in a perspective shot as the children run around her,of the building and of the trees.

The mise-en-scene includes: a piano, and the bands later instruments, the suits, dresses and other clothing, the car.

Black Stone Cherry With 'Lonely Train'

This video by Black Stone Cherry is very similar to the other videos with the black and white affect but what makes this video different to the others as it uses a home camera affect which works well with the location as a bleak and rural area, the sound is almost all just the song apart from the begining which uses digetic sound of a running train. The different parts of the video is reflected by the song for example when the song is slowing down the scene shown is of a boat leaving the port.

The Mise-en-scene is limited in this video as it is based on a natural day to day atributes but the mise-en-scene does includes the instruments and the natural everyday clothing.

The editing is very quick and at the same motion as the song which is shadowing the sound of a train hence the name 'lonely train' some of the shots may have been shot on a train which may explain the motion. There are different camera angles used which picture the artist in different personalities for example using low angles to make the artist look taller is a way to make the artist look more fierce. The shots include random images of American citizens which is the after affectof the band themselves, The way the camera moves and tilts at a fast rate is very affective

The lighting is very limited however the lighting is a lot stronger on the band at play and in some areas which usaly does this before the other shots.

A2 begining to use different filming techniques (ABC song)

This introduction to A2 was a usefull way to bring us back to editing and using new techniques which will help to gather simple ideas including speed and sound.
